Before that it served as a major trading town, famous for its silk and spices all over the world during 17th and 18th century . During the Mughal era, this place was the starting point of the spiritual journey to the holy city of Mecca.

 

The city established by a Hindu trader named Mallik Gopi in 1496 has come a long way. Today it is one of the favourite destinations of industrialists, businessmen and leisure travelers looking for a heady mix of business and pleasure.

Summers are very hot with the temperature shooting upto 43'C but the nights are comparatively soothing.
