About Surat
A city of traders, merchants and industries, Surat is the pride of Gujarat and a major contributor to the Indian economy. Peaceful, flourishing and one of the cleanest cities of India, it has numerous things to boast of.
The port city is one of the major exporters of Diamond and Textile. Renowned for its exquisite variety of silks especially Tanchoi, Kinkhab brocades, the capital of South Gujarat is also known all over the world for its jewellery market, ivory work and diamond cutting and polishing industries.
Surat History
Historically, the city takes pride in playing a crucial role in several movements during India's struggle for Independence. Before that it served as a major trading town, famous for its silk and spices all over the world during 17th and 18th century . During the Mughal era, this place was the starting point of the spiritual journey to the holy city of Mecca.
The city established by a Hindu trader named Mallik Gopi in 1496 has come a long way. Today it is one of the favourite destinations of industrialists, businessmen and leisure travelers looking for a heady mix of business and pleasure.

Ideal time to visit the city: October to April
Just like any other cities of Western India, the city of Surat experiences warm summers and mild winters.
Summers are very hot with the temperature shooting upto 43'C but the nights are comparatively soothing.
Winters are enjoyable with the temperature hovering around 9'C.
